Journalism dos and don'ts. Part I: The Phonetic Headline

Do: speak to readers in language they understand. Don’t: do the phonetic headline.

From today's Irish News - 'Taskforce to intergrate immigrants in Ireland'

The report went on say: 'A taskforce to ensure migrants integrate fully into Irish communities will be established by the end of the year, it emerged yesterday.'

The sub was from Belfast. Sadly it's impossible to tell the provenance of the reporter.

Really looking forward to fillim and buck reviews in tomorrow's culture pages.
