Of course Damian Green is most concerned about getting the best legal bod in to do the job. But what a PR coup!
The blameless and exceptional Mr Caplan will no doubt be treated fairly by the press. But surely the problem arises in the perfectly reasonable reporting of the Pinochet case, background to it, the role of the Tory Party at the time etc etc...
References to stories like this, this and this contain enough ambient noise to ensure the Green/the Tory case is made less audible to the public at large.
How will they media manage this strange episode? Negative comment on the PBR was filtering out pretty well, so Central Office has to get Green off the hook and put Darling back on it. Nothing less than the ol' switcheroo is required!
